Right after the welcome ceremony, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng held talks with Hungarian PM Gordon Bajnai.

In the atmosphere of mutual trust and understanding, the two leaders discussed on ways to cement and deepen the bilateral ties as well as the two countries’ collaboration on multilateral forums, especially when Việt Nam will take over the ASEAN presidency in 2010 and Hungary will assume the rotating president of the EU in the first half of 2011.

Hungary pledged to recognize Việt Nam as a market economy and oppose anti-dumping tax on its leather shoes.

Both sides agreed to regularly exchange high-ranking delegations with a view to building trust and understanding that would lay a solid foundation for further cooperation in all fields.

Although the two-way trade turnover between Việt Nam and Hungary has doubled over the last five years, the trade and investment ties are not commensurate with respective potentials and aspiration. Hence, the two sides pledged to create favorable conditions for enterprises to do business in each other’s markets.

The leaders agreed to prepare for the 3rd meeting of the Việt Nam-Hungary Inter-governmental Committee in December 2009 in Budapest and the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2010.

Impressed by the socio-economic development in Việt Nam, the Hungarian PM underlined that Hungary places priority on Việt Nam in its diplomatic policy towards the Southeast Asia, hoping to develop ties with other ASEAN member states through Việt Nam.

The host leader also affirmed that Hungary would continue supporting Việt Nam to carry out the national renovation, and offering it with more non-refundable aid.
